Dermal Fillers
Botulinum toxin is not as effective on the lower face, which is where another type of injectable treatment comes into its own. Dermal Fillers (generally known as plain fillers) are ideal for correcting wrinkles and deep lines in facial skin. The effect of the injections is effectively to ‘push up’ and thus smooth the skin. Collagen (derived from animal sources) has been and still is popular and is very effective but is gradually being overtaken by newer synthetic products. The active ingredients of this new generation of synthetic, non allergenic Fillers are protein or complex sugar molecules which biodegrade harmlessly over 6-18 months – leaving no residues. We use a number of brands of Dermal Fillers at the clinic which are suitable for almost all skin types and requirements. Dermal Fillers can be used anywhere on the face to smooth out lines and wrinkles, either alone or alongside other treatments such as Botox and Vistabel, leaving no residues. Restylane
Is a synthetic hyaluronic acid that is effective and safe. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in the skin and attracts water to maintain volume babies have lots of it. When used as a filler, it will lift and smooth away those fine lines. It is ideal for enhancing your lips, and for adding volume to the nose to mouth creases (nasolabial folds). Synthetic hyaluronic acids survive for 6-18 months typically, and degrade naturally to water and carbon dioxide with no residue.
Teosyal
Another increasingly poplular synthetic hyaluronic acid product, which we are using more and more at the clinic. As with Restylane, there are a number of products available with different viscosities which enables the most appropriate form to be selected for the problem area.
Zyderm (Collagen)
Considered by many to be the gold standard in the treatment of fine lines. Collagen is a natural product found in all animals. Collagen gives skin its integrity without it the skin would have no support. A reduction in collagen causes the skin to tends to fall away under the influence of gravity – one of the effects of aging on the body. Used aesthetically, Zyderm has proven to be especially effective for crows feet and perioral lines. Collagen treatment effects typically last 3 months.
Hydrafil
A cross linked synthetic hyaluronic acid, giving the smoothness of collagen with the added benefit of the longevity of synthetic hyaluronic acid. This is a perfect filler to treat lip lines and vermillion boarders (lip edges).
Radiesse
Another longer lasting injectable dermal filler, which is composed of synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres, suspended in a gel carrier. These microspheres, once injected, provide a scaffolding, into which the body’s own tissue can grow, thereby maintaining the ‘implant’ in place. Dependant upon the area being treated, patients will see results that last usually between 1-2 years. The product biodegrades completely like hyaluronic acid. This filler is ideal for the nose to mouth (nasolabial) folds and wrinkles.
Sculptra
A biodegradable dermal filler. It contains poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic product that has been used in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Sculptra is injected deep into the skin layer where it helps stimulate new collagen production and plumps the skin from within, smoothing out lines and wrinkles. Collagen is a vital protein for maintaining visible youth, tone and texture in skin. Facial skin will begin to be visibly smoother within 4-6 weeks. Normally 2 or 3 treatments are needed every 2 months to achieve results. However once the process is completed, results last for up to 2 years.
