Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy – literally removal of unwanted or unsightly lesions through the freezing of tissue. Skin tags, warts, sun damaged skin and other lesions can be safely removed, often with just one treatment required. Paler lesions which are unsuitable for laser or IPL treatment can often be dealt with in this way.

We use the CryoPen at Hyde Park Clinic. This is a very precise device which directs a fine jet of liquid nitrous oxide at around -89 degrees centigrade directly on to the area in question. Compare this temperature to that achieved by over the counter alternatives which utilise liquid carbon dioxide at -55 degrees centigrade. The greater freezing ability achieved by our CryoPen increases the chances of complete cell destruction, while the very fine jet allows for precise targeting of the lesion and minimal discomfort and damage to adjacent tissues.

Cryotherapy is a safe and relatively inexpensive way to eliminate unwanted skin lesions. Often one treatment only is required but if more are needed to treat the same area, there will be no second or subsequent charges.
