Colonic Hydrotherapy
The colon, or large intestine, measuring some 5ft in length and 2½ inches in diameter, is an important part of the digestive system. It handles most of our food and body waste and is essential to maintaining good health.
When the colon is not functioning efficiently it is postulated there will be a build up of toxic waste, which through re-absorption into the blood stream, in this scenario could lead to ’self-poisoning’. Many diseases may originate from colonic malfunction, some directly such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and diverticulosis. In the UK cancer of the colon is second only to heart disease as the most common cause of death.
Most diets include dairy, sugar, flour and other mucous-forming foods; and even those of us on good diets will have old, hardened accumulations of mucoid deposits, which may hinder proper elimination. Apart from the possible health risks this can leave you feeling bloated, overweight and lethargic.
The concept of the importance of a healthy colon is not new. It was recognised even by the ancient Egyptians, who were reputed to have practiced Colonic Irrigation as long ago as 1500BC.
Colonic Hydrotherapy is effectively an internal bath which helps cleanse the colon of poisons, gases, accumulated faecal matter and mucous deposits; and may provide relief from bloating and constipation, headaches, eczema, depression, painful haemorrhoids and skin problems. The process may reduce the risk of bowel disease.
In summary, Colonic Hydrotherapy may:
- Reduce risk of cancer of the colon
- Reduce risk of bowel disorders and diseases
- Improve the immune system
- Control weight and improve body shape
- Improve skin condition (acne, eczema, etc)
- Improve digestion and bowel movement
- Increase energy and general feeling of well-being
- Increase relaxation and improve sleep
Preparation for Treatment:
During the 48 hours leading up to your treatment avoid fizzy drinks, caffeine, alcohol, red meat, and dairy and eat plenty of fruit & vegetables and drink plenty of water. On the day of treatment have a light meal. Try not to eat or drink too much an hour before your treatment.
The Colonic Procedure
For your first treatment you will need a 60-minute appointment to include your consultation. If you are taking any medication or supplements it is very important that you bring these with you on the day of the treatment.
You will then lie on your left side as the speculum (disposable tube) is passed into your rectum. The speculum is approximately 2 inches long. You will feel a slight pressure as it enters. The warm water will gently begin to enter the rectum. It is a gravity fed system so the pressure is relatively low and is well controlled by your practitioner. You will begin to feel a “butterflies” sensation as the material begins to leave the rectum. After a few minutes you will move on to your back with your knees slightly bent and your treatment will continue.
The practitioner will perform a special abdominal massage during the procedure. The massage allows the release of faecal matter. Many clients find the procedure deeply relaxing. The colonic system is closed therefore posing no risk of release into the treatment room. It is a completely clean and odourless procedure. The treatment lasts approximately 45 minutes.
A Treatment regime will be discussed after your first session. This varies from person to person as several factors effect the degree of bowel congestion. Most people feel a sense of cleanliness, feel lighter and more energised. You will be able to carry on with you everyday duties as normal after your treatment.
After your treatment, you are able to leave straight after your session though we recommend that you sit and relax for a while first. You may stay for as long as you like with a cup of herbal tea until you feel refreshed and ready to go!
Colonic After Care Pack
It is recommended that after your treatment that you re stock your bowel flora with friendly bacteria or Probiotics.
